Exporting CineForm Files from RedCine

Read Tech Note describing 4K online editing with Prospect 4K and Adobe Premiere Pro (Windows)

Requirement: You must have either Neo 2K / 4K or Prospect 2K / 4K installed before you can export from RedCine to CineForm files.

The Project and Output settings from RedCine are shown below.  The example shown is for a 4K export to CineForm 444. Click on the images to expand.

RedCine Project Settings (click for larger view)

RedCine Output Settings (click for larger view)

Important: There is currently a bug in RedCine when exporting images at exactly 4096 pixels in width, but RedCine successfully exports both 4095 and 4097 (!).  So ... we have a temporary workaround in place in the CineForm encoder until Red updates RedCine with a proper export of 4096.

Project Settings:
Width: 4096
Frame Rate: Your choice - in this case we selected 24 fps.

Output Settings
Codec: Select the CineForm codec as the export format. It shows up as "CineForm HD/2K..."
Quality: Your choice, but we recommend Maximum for Red footage.  Resulting file sizes are moderate considering the 4K Bayer source.
Keyframes: 1.  (You will get a failure if another Keyframe distance is selected)
Width: 4096

NOTES:

  • RedCine is sometimes unstable when exporting to 4K.  It seems quite stable at 2K and HD.

  • Make sure you are not running other programs when exporting from RedCine.  In our experience the 4K exports from RedCine needs lots of memory and may cause the export to stop after the first frame.
