Introduction

Before We Get Started - A Few Things to Know About a CineForm Workflow

Step 2 - Online Post Workflow

Step 3 - Distribution

Step 4 - Digital Archive

Which CineForm Product is Right for Me?

Step 4 - Digital Archive
Storing your CineForm project directly - including media assets - results in the highest-quality post-production archive.

As testimony to the above, Microsoft's Xbox Live Download service uses CineForm files for its digital intermediate (mezzanine) storage.  All content delivered by Microsoft's Xbox Live service first goes through a CineForm file.  From the CineForm mezzanine files Microsoft later renders to VC1 files for download delivery.  As of spring 2008 Microsoft has over 1 Petabyte of CineForm-based online spinning disk storage.

A Note About HDV Exports: From the perspective of ensuring the highest visual fidelity for your finished project, we do not recommend rendering your Cineform project back to HDV and storing it on tape.  Remember, HDV is highly compressed and uses a 4:2:0 color space which is half the chroma resolution of CineForm's 4:2:2 color space.  HDV I/O bit depth is 8 bits.  Especially if you're using a Prospect HD/4K or Neo HD/4K workflow your CineForm chroma resolution is 4:2:2 and your bit depth is 10 bits.
