Mac Codec Update Log

Sep 17
: v1.92 Build 61

NOTE:
If you'd like to be updated when CineForm releases an update for our Mac software, subscribe to the RSS feed on our home page.  Each time a product update is available the RSS feed will be updated.

Sep 17: v1.91 (Build 61)

Major feature updates in this release include: 1) general performance increase for scaled images, and 2) expanded controls in the System Preferences panel to customize application-specific control over gamma correction. Also added control of letterbox conversion for Final Cut Pro.

  • Fixed à Memory leak that cause "Out of Memory" error messages on some renders.

Aug 13: v1.91 (Build 60)

Major feature updates in this release include: 1) general performance increase for scaled images, and 2) expanded controls in the System Preferences panel to customize application-specific control over gamma correction. Also added control of letterbox conversion for Final Cut Pro.

  • Improved à Rendering performance of scaled images in general, and in particular when using the Digital Cinema Display
  • Added à Global gamma Control (/System/Preferences) for RGB pixel formats
  • Added à Aspect ratio control for Final Cut Pro Digital Cinema Desktop when using non 16:9 material at spatial resolution greater than HD.  FCP wants to scale all material to 1920x1080 16:9 without regard to the source aspect ratio.

Aug 6: v1.90 (Build 59)

  • Added à panel for CineForm System Preferences to allow disabling of certain pixel formats for the decoder. QuickTime and iMovie on a Santa Rosa Macbook (for instance) request a 16-bit RGB pixel format that QuickTime cannot use. If the playback shows a blank screen in some applications, try turning off the higher bit-depth pixel formats.
  • Fixed à gamma shift problems caused by Final Cut Pro and QuickTime assuming different gamma for the same RGB pixel format (shake head now in disbelief....)
  • Improved à Performance!.  Up to a 50% performance improvement on some machines.

NOTE1: For this build we recommend you run the Preview monitor in FCP at either 25% or 50%.  The "Fit to Window" size will slow playback performance.  This will be improved in the next release.

NOTE2: Please scan the Readme file located in the /Applications/CineForm folder for various user notes and setup parameters.

July 29: v1.80 (Build 58)

    Active Metadata:

  • Added à Addition of Active Metadata Controls for CineForm 422 files.  Now ALL CineForm files support Active Metadata.

  • Added à Ability to Copy and Paste Active Metadata settings from one clip to another

  • Added à Support for duplicate Look file names, even if the underlying LUTs are different.

  • Improved à Interface improvements to SetActiveMetadata

  • Improved à Sorting of Look files is now alphabetical.

    Other:

  • Improved à QuickTime interface (internal) to increase QT playback performance
  • Fixed à Scrambled output for some formats when a "Look" and high quality demosaic are both used.
  • Updated à Activation script to fix occasional file renaming problems

NOTE: Please scan the Readme file located in the /Applications/CineForm folder for various user notes and setup parameters.

July 22: v1.60 (Build 56)

  • Added à Active Metadata Controls for CineForm 444 files that operate the same as for CineForm RAW, including support for White Balance, Color Matrix, and 3D LUTs.  This is very powerful and offers a compatible Active Metadata workflow style as used with CineForm RAW files, including the same 3D LUTs.
  • Redesigned à Interface for clip-based Active Metadata.  Set Active Metadata has new panels and new features including numeric controls/indicators for Kelvin/Tint.  All controls in SetActiveMetadata are now clip based.
  • Added à New Global Active Metadata Controls in System Preferences/Other.  Normally these should be left ON.  But if you're quickly cutting together a timeline there can sometimes be performance benefit by turning OFF certain Active Metadata layers.
  • Added à Second monitor support. NOTE: There are some idiosyncrasies about the way FCP supports the external monitor.  Please review the Readme installed with the download for details.
  • Added à Threaded decoder support
  • Improved à More decoder performance within all Mac applications

Jun 24: v1.50 (Build 55)

  • Improved à Decoder performance within all Mac applications
  • Added à First release of SetActiveMetadata utility.  Within CineForm RAW files only, allows assigning active metadata globally and on a clip basis.  Allows registration of Iridas .LOOK files used as 3D LUT active metadata.  (Will be added to CineForm 444 files in the future).
  • Fixed à Activation procedure that was previously not working.
  • Fixed à CineForm watermark would inconsistently appear on some systems

  • NOTE1 à This release of the Mac codec will work with full functionality for 15 days, regardless of whether you have previously installed the Mac coded.  After 15 days you will get a watermark on material rendered into CineForm format.
  • NOTE2 à All customers who have a previous Mac codec activation MUST reactivate.  Reactivation can begin in one of two ways: 1) By running the Authenticator application in the /Applications/CineForm folder, or 2) by visiting the CineForm website at www.cineform.com/register.html.

Installation Instructions: Before installing the new codec,
a.  uninstall the older version (if any) by running the Uninstall script in the /Applications/CineForm folder.
b.  reboot your Mac.
c.  install the new version.

Activation: Previous activations will not be recognized.  You will need to reactivate by either
a.  running the Authenticator app in the /Applications/CineForm directory, or
b.  visiting the activation webpage at www.cineform.com/register.html and following the instructions.

Feb 1: v1.40 (Build 47)

  • Added à CineForm RAW decodes now offer multiple Debayer filter options selected via the SetActiveMetadata utility.
  • Fixed à Some 8-bit decodes were displaying the wrong gamma
  • Fixed à Mac decoder now support 8 cores

January 9: v1.40 (Build 45)

  • Fixed à Occasional crashing problem in Final Cut Pro.

January 3: v1.40 (Build 44a)

  • Added: Golbal active metadata controls (ON/OFF) for CineForm RAW files.  See Tech Note for operational description
  • Added: Unrestricted encoder resolution. (Previously encoder was restricted to 2K due to Final Cut Pro spatial resolution limitation.)
  • Fixed à Quarter res decoding bug for CineForm 444
  • Improved à scaling algorithm

November 11: v1.40 (Build 43)

  • Added: Codec auto-selects 4:4:4 (versus 4:2:2) for 2K (and above) material if the calling application doesn't offer a chroma selector.  For example, RedCine does not offer a 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 selector during export, so for spatial resolutions of 2K and above the CineForm Mac codec will auto-select 4:4:4.
  • Fixed: Minor bug fixes

September 21 (Beta) / October 4 (Full Release): v1.40 (Build 41)

  • Fixed: Playback of CineForm RAW files now works properly in QT Player and FCP
  • Fixed: Playback of AVI files now works on MacOS.

NOTE: You can update your Mac codec only by downloading and installing the Neo Player Mac codec here.  When installed, it will recognize your previous Mac codec installation.  You do NOT need to download and install the complete Neo or Prospect product if you are just updating the Mac codec.

August 28: v1.40 (Build 39).  First production release - no updates yet!
