In collaboration with Thomson Grass Valley, CineForm developed I-J2K Suite to enhance post-production workflows for Infinity™ camcorder users.  I-J2K Suite enables conversion of Infinity J2K-MXF media into 10-bit 1920x1080 (or 1280x720) CineForm Intermediate files for an online HD post-production workflow on either Windows or Mac.  Additionally, I-J2K Suite allows re-wrapping of J2K-MXF files into J2K-AVI files for playback in Windows DirectShow applications like Windows Media Player or others.

Workflow Description

  • Shoot à with Infinity in 10-bit 1920x1080 or 1280x720 format to JPEG2000 files on Compact Flash or Rev Pro

  • File Conversion à When I-J2K Suite is installed, CineForm's HD Link will

irewrap (for shot review) J2K MXF media into a playable J2K-AVI format in Windows Media Player or other DirectShow applications, or

ii) transcode (for editing) J2K MXF media in real time(1) into 10-bit CineForm Intermediate AVI or MOV files for editing on either Windows or Mac.

  • Edit à Your CineForm Intermediate files are ready for online editing

    • on Windows using Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas, or others

    • on Mac using Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, or others

Workflow Notes

  • I-J2K Suite installs CineForm's DirectShow J2K decoder plus components to enable Infinity file conversions using HD Link.

  • CineForm's HD Link ships with all CineForm editing products in the Neo and Prospect families. Neo HD and Prospect HD are the recommended companion products to I-J2K Suite.

  • Conversion and re-wrapping can be initiated from CF or Rev Pro source media, eliminating a file copy otherwise required.

  • The file "chunking" feature of Infinity files is supported by HD Link, allowing users to choose whether to concatenate file chunks into a single converted file or whether to leave them as separately converted chunks.

  • I-J2K Suite currently runs only on Windows. A native Mac version of I-J2K Suite is being developed

  • Infinity J2K MXF files converted to CineForm MOV files are immediately playable on Mac with Final Cut Pro and other Mac applications.

Tech Note: Read the Infinity workflow Tech Note for details about using Infinity files with I-J2K Suite and HD Link.
